Stephen Dorff talks ‘Immortals’
Actor Stephen Dorff recently talked about Immortals, the adventure epic set in ancient Greece. The movie, directed by Tarsem Singh, stars Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto, Stephen Dorff, Mickey Rourke and a lot more. He revealed some information about the main characters, including Freida Pinto’s oracle. Check it out below.
“Henry Cavill’s younger than me, so he plays, like, the Luke Skywalker. Freida Pinto plays the oracle who becomes the love interest to Henry. I play the Han Solo of the movie, this slave who hooks up with them, and then we all go against Mickey Rourke, who’s the bad guy. I’m a little older than Henry and I’m flirting with Freida, and I’ve got all the good lines in the movie.”
Also, I’m currently out of town for some time, but I’ll do my best to update the site. Though I’m sure our co-web Ally will keep you posted with all the Freida-news as well.
Official Synopsis for “Immortals”
According to IGN, Universal has given Tarsem Singh’s Greek epic Immortals a November 11, 2011 release date (11/11/11). The movie, which stars Mickey Rourke, Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto, began filming in March and is currently in post-productiion.
Universal has also released the official synopsis:
On 11/11/11, witness the 3-D epic battle as mere men become Immortals. Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.
Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope.
Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders–including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff) — one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.
This sounds absolutely awesome, doesn’t it?! And Freida Pinto in 3-D? Yes, please!
First still from ‘Immortals’
The very first still of Freida Pinto as Phaedra in Immortals has been released! It’s featured in one of the on set-interviews with director Tarsem Singh by IAmRogue.com. The picture is supposedly taken during the first scene Freida filmed for the movie (a sex scene with Henry Cavill’s Theseus). Be sure to click on the preview above to see it in full size, a bigger one will be added when available. Enjoy!
Freida Pinto skips the Cannes Film Festival
Unfortunately Freida Pinto won’t attend this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, due to shooting commitments. She was expected to walk the red carpet with the stars of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, the new movie directed by Woody Allen. Her spokesperson had this to say about Freida’s no-show:
“This is to confirm that Freida Pinto unfortunately will not be attending the Cannes film festival as she is shooting for Immortals in Canada. Her film You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger directed by Woody Allen will be premiering at Cannes.”
‘War of the Gods’ is now ‘Immortals’?
According to USA Today and on-set sources, War of the Gods (or Dawn of War if you will) has changed the title to Immortals. The movie, currently filming for a release on November 11, 2011 (11.11.11), stars Freida Pinto, Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Luke Evans and more. The synopsis from USAToday.com can be read below. More updates on the title change and filming of the movie when it becomes available.
To save mankind, warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill of TV’s The Tudors) leads his troops into battle alongside the immortal Greek gods to fight dark forces unleashed by the elder Titans. Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) directs Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion, Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) as oracle priestess Phaedra and Kellan Lutz (Twilight) as Poseidon. Gianni Nunnari says he and producing partner Mark Canton are aiming to serve “a great Greek cocktail mixed with testosterone.” Adds Canton, “We want to provide strong modern themes that connect to other times in history: honor, freedom, the making of destiny, the changing of relationships — all important in the battle between good and evil.”
Isabel Lucas and more join ‘War of the Gods’
According to a new interview with actor Luke Evans (currently in Clash of the Titans), more actors have been added to the cast of War of the Gods. Among them are the beautiful Isabel Lucas as Athena, Corey Sevier as Apollo and John Hurt & Luke Evans as two versions of Zeus. Of the movie (also known as Dawn of War) – ready to start shooting in Montreal, Canada – Evans said:
“Dawn of War really plays on the human side of the battle, whereas there are so many monsters in Clash of the Titans. This film really is very strongly based on Earth, I would say, and it is about the human battle. The gods have a very strong presence in Dawn of War, and it’s a much bigger action film; this is way more action.”
“Tarsem Singh sets an amazing scene and allows the actors to feel completely immersed in the world — we’ve walked on to the sets and they’re superb. The details of these sets are spectacular, and you know Tarsem has had a hand in every decision. We can’t wait to start.”
